Green Your Life

Green Your Life

If you want to switch to green lifestyle, the first place you need to start with is your home. Living green is very ‘in’ right now and that’s more or less a gift to nature. So go ahead – get rid of all your toxic cleaners right now and start your green life.

The EPA has estimated that the air indoors is about a 1000 times more polluted than outdoors and a great percent of that pollution is chemically induced. But green cleaners, on the other hand, are not only healthier to the environment, but also reduce the possibility of skin, eyes and lungs irritations to a minimum without being any harder to use.

Have you asked yourself how healthy and green your environment is? Yes, I know that life today is busy and has put a lot of pressure on you, so you have no time to think about that. But the health of your home is of crucial importance, as it directly reflects on your health. So, since I know how valuable time is for you, I’ve summarized into 7 easy steps the way to finding good green cleaning products.

  1. Read the back of the packaging. Does the product contain toxic ingredients? Is it biodegradable? If the answer is yes, than this is a member of the green cleaning products family. Oh, and what is biodegradable? Well, the longer something takes to degrade, the more harmful it is to the environment. Biodegradable products are faster than others.
  2. Look for the sign of Green Seal on the packaging. It is the company, which provides science-based environmental certification standards for green cleaning products. Some other organizations that value and have high standards for cleaning products are: Trans Fair, Forest Stewardship Certified, Greenguard, Rainforest Alliance Certified, Energy Star and Leaping Bunny.
  3. Does the product contain chlorine bleach? If so, than when mixed with the waste water it will create toxic chemicals, which will pollute both air and land. To switch to green living – don’t use products, containing chlorine bleach for your wash.
  4. And how about petroleum? Petroleum-based solvents are flammable and toxic when you inhale them. Try pine oil or citrus – they are renewable, non-toxic and friendly both to nature and your health. What’s more, they clean just as effectively as the chemically based.
  5. The next thing to check is the pH-balance of you products. Products with too high or too low pH are dangerous and can burn your skin if you accidentally spill them. The best solution is neutral pH ( 7.0 ) – it’s harmless.
  6. Check too see if the packaging is made of recycled products. Some products are recycled and used again, so that our impact on nature is reduced.
  7. And last but not least, check if the product has been tasted on animals or if it contains animal ingredients. If it does – be a green life follower and don’t use it.

To green your lifestyle is easy. Avoiding chemically based cleaners and using green products instead benefits our health, our planet.

Effect of Household Cleaners

Effect of Household Cleaners

To begin this article, we must turn our sight to some unpleasant news. Did you know that there are 80.000 synthetic chemicals registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and less than 20% have been tested for toxicity? And did you know that although EPA has not tested all products, many household cleaning products are listed on their website as “hazardous household waste”? You don’t? Well, here is the fact – as a result of no toxicity testing the health of our children and even their children is being compromised and they are more or less test subjects.

We must remember that children are more vulnerable to chemicals because their systems can not detoxify and excrete harmful chemicals as fast and as good as that of us, adults. Moreover, their metabolism is faster, so they absorb toxins faster than us.

Furthermore, we all know that children like placing objects in their mouths. . Scientists at Rutgers University have proved that when we spray pesticides  in our  home, they don’t just disappear. They evaporate and then condense on different household objects. Thus children are very likely to be exposed to much more harm by those chemicals than adults.

Because of the absence of prove to the contrary, the National Academy of Science has declared that children and infants are much more vulnerable to chemical substances, especially cleaners.

Did you know that asthma is the most chronic childhood disease today and this has happened only in the last 30 years? The explanation is simple – common household cleaners and appliances give off fumes, which actively increase the possibility for a child to develop asthma.

The research discoveries go on: it has been discovered that if a pregnant women is often exposed to chemically based products, this seriously increases the chances of wheezing in the child’s early ages.

Another disturbing news: Many household cleaning products and air fresheners produce unhealthy fumes and their frequent use is harmful.

Toxins are especially dangerous to pregnant women. Several all-purpose cleansers contain neurotoxins and nasal irritants that can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled and this can disrupt the development or even cause the death of the fetus.

For the sake of your and your family’s health, for the sake of our environment, we ask you to avoid using chemically based products, and dispose of their packaging in the way, showed on the back of the product. The best decision would be to use green cleaning products – they are not toxic and their packaging is recyclable.

Going Green

Going Green

Let’s talk about your workplace. What do you think about the smell – clean, fresh, air floats freely to your lungs? Or is it stuffy, perhaps your employees have lost some of their vitality? If the latter, then you obviously need to do some cleaning and freshing up. But don’t hurry to those chemically based, fresh-smelling but harmful cleaners. For best results, cleaner and better smelling environment, you should turn your sight to the green cleaning products. That’s what a great many people have been doing recently and soon this will be a practice as common as recycling and switching to low-energy light bulbs.

What is Green Cleaning? Well, yes, the obvious concept is swapping traditional chemical cleaners for products that meet UK green standards. But that’s not all – like most things, technique also counts.

One of the objectives for green cleaning products is to expand the lifespan of things like floor coverings. Make sure your cleaner uses an ergonomically designed vacuum cleaner and you could give the carpets, rugs and flooring a few more years in service.

Not too difficult, right? So what else can be done?
Here are a few solutions:

  1. Check the ventilation – the windows should be able to open, the ventilation grills should work and the air conditioning should be maintained and serviced as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
  2. Eating in the work area is not a good idea because it results crumbs in keyboards or food particles in public areas and, naturally, this doesn’t contribute to a healthy environment. Design a special place for your employees to eat.
  3. And how about replacing cleaners’ traditional mops and dusters with ergonomically designed micro fibre alternatives in order to capture more dust?
  4. Don’t forget mats – place them at entry points and thus reduce the dirt, being brought in.

The result of green cleaning should be deeply cleaned, fresh-smelling environment. And what does clean smell like? Well, it doesn’t. It shouldn’t have any odour, but just smell natural and fresh and this is achieved through green cleaning products.

Applying green cleaning tactics in your office will contribute to a healthier environment, create a sense of wellbeing for your employees and will speak volumes for your environmental policy.
